Ah the history of this drink is amazing. The typical is that during World War I a Brit stopped in at a French place to get a bit of something tasty. The French bartender took a bottle of brandy/cognac, Cointreau and the juice of a lemon to create this wonderful drink.

1 Drink shaker
2 Cocktail glass
1 Cocktail shaker strainer if you drink shaker does not have one on it. Use a separate one.
Ingredients
4ozCognacOptional: Brandy or Whiskey
2ozCointreauOptional: Triple sec
1ozLemon juiceFresh squeezed in my Finnish citrus squeezer. I prefer a full 2 oz.
Instructions
Fill cocktail glass with ice,
Add ice to cocktail shaker.
Add the cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice to the shaker
Shake for a good bit, fifteen to twenty seconds.
Dump ice out of cocktail glass
Strain Sidecar into cocktail glass.
Serve up with a twist of citrus.
Notes
This is a nice drink on a winter evening by the fire. Or, summer sitting on the beach watching the sun set over the horizon.
